What to expect from geriatric psychiatric care

Care for older adults starts with a thorough evaluation. Physical health symptoms such as changes to sleep, appetite or difficulty concentrating may also be signs of a mental health diagnosis. Your psychiatric provider will carefully assess these symptoms and together with the patient and family, develop a care plan to improve overall function. Ongoing follow up will track symptoms over time and determine if other support such as medication or therapy may be useful. The plan can be coordinated with all members of the health care team.

Who this is for

Changes in mood

Life changes including retirement, health or mobility challenges can result in depression, anxiety or other mental health issues.

Medication review

Medication can impact older adults differently. A careful review of all medications and potential interactions will be discussed with the patient and family.
